As Traditional Arts Association, we launched the Masters of Istanbul project in 2010 for Marmara Region. With the Masters of Marmara Region inventory study, we created a list of artists and craftsmen who apply traditional arts in the region; and with this study, we have aimed to make the region’s art heritage and knowledge more visible and accessible.

In the 3rd National Culture Council, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism stated that there are lacks of inventory and field research studies about traditional arts. Council’s visual arts commission suggested that we need more inventory studies in this domain.

We believe this project will contribute to present our artistic and cultural wealth in Turkey and abroad, and also encourage our artists to achieve more.

The project includes cities of Balıkesir, Bilecik, Bursa, Çanakkale, Edirne, Istanbul, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Tekirdağ and Yalova. Masters of Marmara Region inventory consists of a website which is published in Turkish, English and Arabic, an online map and a book. Applications of people and foundations were collected through the website and added to the inventory in an alphabetical order. Additionally, categories are created based on the art branches to make it easier to browse.

We sincerely thank everyone in the art studios, educational institutions, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the entire project team for their support and contributions. We are working hard to include other regions and provinces in our inventory project.
