Timur Bilir was born in Istanbul in 1972. He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department in 1996, and completed his graduate education in 2000 at MSFAU Institute of Social Sciences Old Tile Restoration Master’s Degree Program. He was appointed as an instructor at Uludağ University İznik Vocational School in 2000, and worked as the head of the restoration-conservation program and as the assistant principal. He graduated from MSFAU Institute of Social Sciences Old Tile Restoration Proficiency in Art Program in 2008, and has been giving pattern design classes at MSFAU and Istanbul University Technical Sciences Vocational School Tile Processing Program since 2005. Bilir has been working as a pattern designer at a private tile company since 2005, and as an instructor at MSFAU Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Tile Department since 2009. He participated in many exhibitions both at home and abroad. Bilir’s masters are Prof. Kerim Silivrili, Prof. Sitare Turan and Prof. Ali Alpaslan. In 2011 and 2013, Bilir won first prize in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism State Turkish Decorative Arts Competition in tile pattern branch.
