İlknur Türker Eriz was born in Istanbul in 1980. She graduated from Gazi University in Ankara with a degree in Business Administration in 2001. Her journey in the art of tezhip (illumination) began in 2007, when she started private lessons with master illuminator Arife Aktuğ at the historical Irgandı Bridge in Bursa. For six years, she trained through the traditional master-apprentice model, ultimately receiving her certification (icazet) in tezhip and şükûfe from her teacher. After participating in numerous group exhibitions alongside her mentor, she opened her own atelier in Süleymanpaşa, Tekirdağ, in 2016. A registered artist with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Eriz has held seven solo exhibitions and taken part in various group exhibitions, workshops, panels, seminars, and fairs. She has taught tezhip in public institutions, municipal art galleries, and directorates of culture. She currently continues her in-person and online courses at her atelier in Tekirdağ, training new artists through the master-apprentice tradition.
