Fatma Zehra Aktaş was born in Istanbul in 1948. She is a graduate of Selçuk Girls’ Vocational High School Painting Department. Aktaş took classes from Ülker Erke, Gülbün Mesara and Nusret Çolpan. She received her illumination and miniature licenses at Cerrahpaşa Süheyl Ünver Workshop in 1995. She is a founder member of Yalova Workshop, and still gives illumination and miniature classes. Aktaş participated in many exhibitions both at home and abroad, won many prizes in competitions. Some of the students she trained are Nuriye Okuyan, Ümmühan Ekşi and Gülnur Selçuk Temel.
