Born in Erzincan in 1952, Polat graduated from a vocational high school. Polat, who received training in various branches of handicrafts at handiwork schools in the evenings, received certificates in the fields of machine and hand embroidery, clothing, wood painting, marbling, cooking and pastry. In 1991, Polat started to work as a master instructor in handicrafts branch at Karşıyaka Public Education Centre, and until her retirement in 2016, she worked as a master instructor in patchwork, folkloric doll making, wood painting and furnishing at Çiğli Public Education Centre, and gave folkloric doll making courses at Ege University Emel Akın Vocational School. Polat, who was the president of Çiğli Fakir Kimsesiz Zihinsel Engellileri Koruma Derneği (Çiğli Protecting the Poor Orphaned Mentally Handicapped Association), which she founded in 1995, until 2019, introduced her artworks to art lovers in many events, exhibitions, festivals and fairs. Polat won awards in folkloric doll making, patchwork, cloth dolls and various handicrafts in the competitions she participated in, received the Ministry of Culture artist card issued by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearers Evaluation Board in 2012. Polat is the mother of three children.
