Born in 1983 in the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya, Bal graduated from Balıkesir University Bandırma Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Business Administration in 2007. Bal started his calligraphy training with courses on thuluth and naskh from calligrapher Eyüp Can Sarı in 2018 and continued his calligraphy training with the specialisation courses in thuluth from calligrapher Mahmut Şahin. Bal’s many artworks under the pseudonym ‘Derbendi’ are featured in Turkish and foreign collections and museums such as Bayburt Belediyesi Hattat Şair Ahmet Revayi Hüsn-i Hat Müzesi, Eskişehir Yunus Emre Hüsn-i Hat Müzesi, Yozgat Belediyesi Hattat Şair Mehmet Sait Fenni Efendi Hüsn-i Hat Müzesi. Bal, who has held various positions in the pharmaceutical, retail and automotive sectors and currently works as a quality check department manager in a factory producing automobile cables, is married and has three children.
