Osman Özçay was born in Trabzon in 1964. He is a graduate of Marmara University Theology Faculty. Özçay started receiving khatt training in 1982, took classes from Fuat Başar and Uğur Derman. He writes his works in the classical style with thuluth, jali thuluth, naskh and muhaqqaq scripts. Özçay participated in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad. He won second and third prizes in various branches, including jali thuluth and thuluth, in the international khatt competitions organized by the Research Center For Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) in 1986 and 1989; and first prizes in the Martyr Culture Competition organized by Kuwait Martyrs’ Office in 1997.
