A graduate of Çankaya University Department of English Language and Literature, Duruerk received ceramics training at Atölye Çamurdan while still at university. Duruerk learned the technique of working with flames from Julie Anne Denton at The Glass Furnace Foundation in 2005, and improved her skills in glass techniques by participating in workshops abroad for three years. She has trained hundreds of trainees and instructors in different cities to spread and develop the technique of working with flames, as well as to create an understanding of glass art in Türkiye. Duruerk is the sculptor of the glass rooster sculpture, which was erected at Denizli’s city square in 2013, and which is the only glass sculpture in Türkiye exhibited outdoors. Duruerk, who has organized and curated the International Denizli Glass Biennial since 2011, continues to produce artworks at the Karma Tasarım Atölyesi (Karma Design Workshop), which she founded with her husband Fatih Duruerk in 2008.
