Born in the Emet district of Kütahya in 1962, Şen graduated from Tavşanlı Vocational High School. After working as a survey project painter in a public institution for seven years, Şen opened a painting and advertising workshop and received training from painter Ahmet Yakupoğlu. Şen received his ijazah from calligrapher Mahmut Şahin, from whom he learnt thuluth and naskh, continues to learn taliq script.
