Şerife Altıhan graduated from State Applied Fine Arts Academy Textile Department in 1975. She worked as a designer and the head of pattern department at Sezak Carpet Factory in İzmir between 1975-1982, and took part in DOBAG project between 1983-2017. Altıhan started working as a research assistant at Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Arts Department in 1984, and as a professor at the same university in 2000. She has been publishing her field researches on traditional textile she did in West and Southwest Anatolia as articles and papers since 1983. Her book titled “Çarpana Weavings from Anatolia and Topkapı Palace” is being prepared for publishing in Turkish and English. She makes new weaving designs by using the patterns, colors, materials and techniques of traditional textiles, and weaves them. Her weavings were exhibited in national and international personal and group exhibitions.
