Born in 1933 in the Bergama district of Izmir, Araç started his apprenticeship as a tanner in 1955 and he still continues his tanning business in an old tannery using traditional methods. Araç, who stands out through his mastery in making parchment (Pergamon paper), which dates back to the 2nd century BCE and takes its name from Bergama, uses the karatabaklık method. Araç, who processes leather with his hands using natural methods and materials without using any chemicals, has received many awards and has been the subject of documentaries. The artist continues to transfer traditional parchment production to the future with the apprentices he has trained.
