Born in 1967, Kalaycı studied Turkish Language and Literature and Persian Language and Literature. After working as a personnel manager in a private company for some time, she turned to handicrafts and learnt basket weaving through personal efforts. Kalaycı continues working in her workshop at her home and gives courses in her field.
