Nimet Altınel was born in Akhisar, Manisa. She completed her primary education at Atatürk Primary School in 1980, her secondary education at İbrahim Kafesoğlu Middle School in 1985, and graduated from İbrahim Kafesoğlu High School in 1988. She received her degree in Public Relations from Eskişehir University in 1992, followed by specialized studies in Traditional Turkish Arts—Illumination, Calligraphy, and Miniature at Süleyman Demirel University in 1995. Throughout her artistic training, she worked with distinguished masters including Adem Sakal (calligraphy), Prof. İlhan Özkeçeciler (illumination and ornamentation), Salih Elhan (ebru marbling), Seyhan Çiftçi Güzeli (miniature), Tülin Tolun (restoration and conservation), and Reha Tolun (decorative arts and mother-of-pearl inlay). Altınel actively continues her dual career as both an instructor and practicing artist in a wide range of traditional Turkish arts, including illumination, calligraphy, miniature, ebru marbling, tile art, ceramics, relief, wood painting, restoration-conservation, and stained glass. Throughout her career, she has taken part in numerous significant exhibitions and cultural projects, including the 1996 Antalya Museum collective exhibition, the 1998 Antalya Municipality Culture Gallery exhibition, the 2010 TRT Akhisar documentary exhibition and interview, the 2011 Akhisar Municipality Culture Hall exhibition, and the restoration and ornamentation of Kapaklı/Akhisar Mosque in the same year. In 2012, she received the Turkey First Prize in the EU Youth Education Program “Join Us.” Additionally, between 2012 and 2024, she participated regularly in various exhibitions, presenting her works to broad audiences. She currently continues her artistic production and teaching activities at her studio in Akhisar, Manisa, contributing to the preservation and transmission of Traditional Turkish Arts.
