Ayla Makas was born in 1963 and graduated from the Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures, Arabic Language and Literature. Makas, who received khatt training from Hüseyin Kutlu, and marbling training from Fuat Başar and Hikmet Barutçugil, received a certificate on naskh from Hüseyin Kutlu. She worked as an English teacher for a period of time, participated in many seminars and projects. Among the students whom Makas –whose works were exhibited in personal and group exhibitions- trained are Emine Solak, Semanur Akgul, Başak Alkan, Berna Cakir and Deniz Adıgüzel.
