Ayten Kurgan was born in 1963 in Çanakkale. Kurgan graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration of Anadolu University and the History Department of Open and Distance Education Faculty of Istanbul University and is currently working as a restorer in the Restoration Department of the Prime Ministry State Archives General Directorate. Kurgan received ceramic painting training in Caferağa Madrassah, fabric painting training from Sevil Alpaydın at Istanbul Handicrafts Market, marbling from Fuat Başar at Süleymaniye Library, illumination from Arzu Uzunosmanoğlu, marbling training from İsmail Dündar and Beylikdüzü İSMEK. Kurgan, who received marbling license from İskender Dündar in 2014, also studied katı’ with Safiye Morçay for a short period of time. Kurgan received tile training from Nazan Ilgız at Küçükçekcekmece Traditional Art Academy Tile Department and participated in many group and personal exhibitions in the country.
