Born in 1965 in Afyonkarahisar, Erkuş graduated from Afyonkarahisar Vocational High School Department of Metal Works. Erkuş began learning the art of felting in his family's workshop while he was a primary school student. He not only trained himself in this craft, but he also trained others who went on to become masters. He was awarded the title of Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer in felting by the General Directorate of Living Heritage and Cultural Activities of Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2013. A member of a family that has kept this profession alive for three generations, Erkuş continues to practice his craft in his own workshop.
