Born in 1958 in Afyonkarahisar, Yalçınkaya graduated from the Department of Business Administration-Accounting at Ankara Commerce and Tourism Higher Education School (Gazi University) in 1979. Having learned traditional compressed felt making by watching masters from Afyonkarahisar and practicing with A. Yaşar Kocataş between 2000-2005, Yalçınkaya was given a loincloth, a tradition of the Ahi Brotherhood, by her master Kocataş at a ceremony held in 2010. Yalçınkaya, who received the award of Halk Kültürü Araştırmaları Kurumu (HAKAK) (Institution of Folk Culture Research) in 2010 and the Art Award of the Year from Cafe Life Magazine in 2021, was approved as a traditional handicraft artist in the felting branch in 2013 and was awarded the title of Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer by Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Yalçınkaya, who has participated in national and international group exhibitions and opened solo exhibitions with her traditional and original felt productions since 2005, has given talks in national and international symposiums and has published articles. Yalçınkaya, who has a book titled Keçeye Ter Düştü: Halk Plastik Sanatlarından Keçe ve Afyonkarahisar’da Yansıması published in 2009 and an e-book titled Keçe-Afyonkarahisar’da Geleneksel Bir El Sanatı published in 2011, continues producing artworks together with the Topak Ev Art Group she founded in Afyonkarahisar in 2013.
