Born in Kütahya in 1972, Özkul graduated from Dumlupınar University Kütahya Vocational School of Technical Sciences, Department of Architectural Restoration. In 2008, Özkul started her calligraphy training with calligrapher Osman Çiçek and continued with Calligrapher Mahmut Şahin since 2012. In 2015, she received her ijazah in thuluth and naskh from her teacher Şahin. Between 2009 and 2011, Özkul took illumination lessons from the illuminator Nesrin Şarlıgil, has been giving calligraphy courses at Kütahya Public Education Centre since 2016, and continues her education at Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Calligraphy.
