 Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Memiş was born in Çorum in 1960. He started working as a teacher, after graduating from Selçuk University Theology Faculty in 1984. He started taking khatt classes from Khattat Hüseyin Öksüz of Konya (Konevî), and continued with Khattat Hasan Çelebi. Memiş studied ta’liq and diwani scripts with Prof. Ali Alparslan. He received his thuluth – naskh license from Khattat Hüseyin Konevî in 1992. He did his master’s degree at Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences Traditional Turkish Arts Department, and his Ph.D. in the History of Turkish – Islamic Arts Department of the same institute in 1998. He received associate professor title in 2015, and continues giving khatt classes at Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty. Memiş participated in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad, and held around twenty-five personal exhibitions, mostly abroad.
