Born in Istanbul in 1981, Cesur graduated from Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Illumination Department in 2002. Cesur did her internships while at university on graphic design in Izmir, on tempering in Düzce and on bookbinding and bookbinding restoration with the master bookbinder Mehmet Ali Kunduracıoğlu in Istanbul, and completed her graduation thesis on bookbinding and bookbinding restoration. Cesur, who received pedagogical formation education from DEU Faculty of Education in 2011 - 2012, completed her master’s degree in the Department of Old Tile Restoration at DEU GSF Institute in 2023. In 2003, Cesur continued to master the art of tiling in the workshop of tile master Ismail Yiğit, and made original works on jewellery panels, plates and vases, and received her mastership license from her master Yiğit. Cesur, whose binding work of her own design was exhibited in Türkiye’s first paper and book arts museum by Ege University, opened her first solo exhibition in 2000 when she was 19 years old. Cesur went on to open many solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions, gave calligraphy, miniature, illumination, marbling and tile lessons in the workshops in cooperation with Gaziemir Municipality and Gaziemir Public Education Centre between 2009-2017. Cesur took marbling courses from DEU GSF Lecturer Özkan Birim and continues to take private courses from marbling artist Ilker Selimler. She uses earth paints, gold, gouache, acrylic and stone watercolours in illumination, miniature and marbling, in accordance with tradition. Cesur continues to produce artworks at Gülşah Ikbal Sanat Atölyesi (Gülşah Ikbal Art Workshop) in Izmir’s Güzelbahçe district, is married and has three children.
