Levent Kum was born in Ankara in 1966. He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department in 1991 and completed his graduate studies at MSFAU Institute of Social Sciences Old Tile Restorations Department in 2000. Kum studied at the stained-glass workshops between 1987-1989, and worked on the kalem işi applications of the new mosques built in Istanbul and Anatolia with Semih İrteş and his crew between 1985-1989. He participated in the kalem işi restorations of various parts of Topkapı Palace and Istanbul Governor’s Building. Kum worked at the design and serigraphy workshops at Kütahya Porcelain Factory between 1991-1995. He gave two seminars on vocational topics in Switzerland.
