Born in Aydın, Ünal Yıldırım graduated from Anadolu University Open Education, Faculty of Business Administration and retired from the Turkish Ministry of National Education as data preparation and control officer. Yıldırım, who took up pottery in 1982 and learned the subtleties of this craft from masters in various pottery workshops, received training from French ceramic artist Brigitte de Bazelaire, Greek master Panayotis, ceramic artist Cem Atmaca and world champion pottery artist Ahmet Taşhomcu. Ünal Yıldırım opened her own workshop in 2017, and since then she provides trainings on applying mythological patterns especially on red pots, at public education centers. She became the first Turkish ceramic artist to be invited to the Argillà Italia, International Ceramics Festival & Market-Fair held in Faenza, Italy in 2018. Yıldırım, whose work was exhibited in the Altın Testi Competition organized by the Izmir Rotary Club and whose photographs were included in the World Ceramicists Catalog, participates in national and international festivals, exhibitions, workshops and events in Türkiye. Ünal Yıldırım applies mythological patterns, especially from Greek mythology, Huntürk, Egyptian and Turkish miniature, onto terra sigillata pots and continues to transfer her expertise and experience to students in her workshop in Alsancak, Izmir. She has the title of Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer in the field of pottery art by the General Directorate of Living Heritage and Cultural Activities of Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
