Born in 1955, Karakaş graduated from Ege University Faculty of Business Administration in 1979. Karakaş took lessons from wood carving master Tahsin Güler and wood fretsaw pattern master Ömer Erkaraman starting from 2011, and also trained students in the following years. Karakaş, who mainly makes fretsaw pattern works and participates in festivals, schools’ handicraft days and exhibitions, was given the Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer Artist Identification Card by the General Directorate of Research and Education of Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2023.
