The toys that have been seen in all cultures since ancient times have been functioning to entertain children even though technological developments have changed throughout the history. In human history, religious small human figures started to function as toys over time. Especially dolls are among the toys that are made from easily accessible clay, animal bones, wood, and other materials. In the Turkish society, mothers known to make rag dolls for their daughters from the materials like waste cloth, wool, etc. Although their primary purpose was to entertain children, rag dolls wearing traditional clothes are touristic commodities and valuable objects in commerce nowadays. In Anatolia, there are also modern examples of rag dolls that are also called gelin, güççe, korçak and kurçak in different regions.
