Sedat Üstüntürk was born in 1977 in Yalova, Turkey. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory with a degree in Music Theory in 2002. His interest in instrument making began during his conservatory years and developed through training with prominent masters such as Cafer Açın, Yücel Açın, and Ekrem Özkarpat. Specializing in the crafting of both traditional Turkish and Western plucked string instruments, Üstüntürk has continued the master-apprentice tradition and mentored many students. He also pursued classical Islamic calligraphy under the guidance of renowned calligrapher Prof. Dr. Ali Alparslan for several years. He currently continues his work in instrument making at his workshop in Yalova.
