Serra Güney Özkan was born in Istanbul in 1975. She graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Arts Book Binding and Restoration Department in 1999. She completed her master’s degree with her thesis on bound cover designs of rare manuscripts in MSFAU Nuruosmaniye Library. Özkan took classes from artists like İslam Seçen, Ali Kunduracıoğlu, Saadet Gazi, Hikmet Barutçugil and İlhami Turan. Since 2003, she has been doing modern and classic binding works and conducting restoration and conservation works on rare pieces at her own workshop in Küçükayasofya.
