Füsun Barutçugil was born in 1956 in Diyarbakir. After graduating from Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences Şişli Political Science College in 1979, she completed Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration Institute. Barutçugil started her illumination studies at Kubbealti Foundation in 1988, and continued at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Prof. Süheyl Ünver Workshop in 1989. Barutçugil, who completed the illumination courses organized by the Ministry of Culture in Topkapı Palace between 1990-1992, took Turkish motives classes from Kerim Silivri, a professor of Mimar Sinan University Traditional Handicrafts Department. Between 1992-1997 she attended the courses at Sema Workshop, she participated in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad. Her husband Hikmet Barutçugil, a marbling artist, and she founded Ebristan Istanbul Marbling House in 1997, she continues her works there. She has also been taking naskh calligraphy classes from Hasan Çelebi for three years.
