Nilüfer Kurfeyz was born in Istanbul in 1957. She is a graduate of Istanbul Unviersity Archeology and Art History Classical Archeology Department. During her high school and university years, she took part in many illumination and kalem işi studies. Kurfeyz took classes from Süheyl Ünver, Cahide Keskiner and Melek Antel. She held her first personal exhibition in 1992, and published her book titled ‘Tezhib’ (means ‘Illumination’) in 2003. She held the “30 Years Devoted to Art” personal exhibition in 2005 and “In the Presence of Love” personal exhibition in 2009. She participated in numerous group exhibitions and all her works are in collections both at home and abroad. Kurfeyz has been doing collaborations with Selim Sağlam, who took lessons from her in 1986, at the common workshop since 1990. She still works as an illumination instructor, manager and science board member at the National Palaces Department Classical Arts Training Unit. Kurfeyz has been continuing her works on classical arts, which she started with Süheyl Ünver in 1975, for forty-two years. Selim Sağlam, Ayşe Gülcan Özbalak, Hande Topbaş, Rüveyda Şener, Tuba Asiltürk, Yeşim K. Jandar, Fatmanur Dülger, Gülçin Taştan, Betül Esginus, Seda Kaya, Halide Bayıroğlu, Nagehan Asiltürk, Banu Göbülük, Fatma Akkoyunlu and Berrin Abbasoğlu are some of the students Kurfeyz trained.
