Sema Onat was born in Tripoli-Libya in 1977. She took illumination classes from Serap Bostancı; received drawing techniques, motif and pattern design, flower and hatai flower motifs and basic Turkish illumination art trainings for thirteen years. Onat took classes from Şehnaz Özcan for one year, and took basic Turkish illumination techniques and specialization classes from Emel Türkmen for five years. She took miniature classes from Mağfirat Onat between 2009-2015, and has an Artist Presentation Card given by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She participated in many exhibitions. Onat won project award in the competition themed “The Face of Istanbul” organized by the Classical Turkish Arts Foundation in 2010, third prize in Algeria Culture and Art Festival organized in 2011, and third prize in the Masters of the Future Competition organized by Zeytinburnu Municipality in 2015.
