Ümmügülsüm Terzi was born in Istanbul in 1968. She took illumination classes at Kubbealtı Academy between 1984-1985, from Ayten Tiryaki at Birlik Foundation between 1987-1989, from Semih İrteş and Mamure Öz at Sema Workshop between 1997-2003, and received her license from Semih İrteş. She took illumination classes also from Emel Sönmezışık Türkmen between 2003-2005. Terzi studied naskh and thuluth with Yusuf Sezer between 2003-2005. She took kazaz classes from Betül Aydur and filigree classes from Bilgün Ataseven between 2011-2013. She took ruq’ah classes from Erol Balcı between 2014-2015 and muraqqa classes from M. Ali Kunduracı. She was given the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Illumination Artist Card in 2005. Terzi has been studying miniature with Reza Hemmatirad at Istanbul Design Center since 2009, and has been working as an illumination and miniature instructor at Gebze Municipality GESMEK Vocational Training Courses since 2005.
