Ümmühan Ekşi Kart was born in 1974 in Rize. She started to take illumination (tezhip) education from Fatma Zehra Aktaş in 2009. Kart took both illumination certificate and artist identity of Culture Ministery in 2013. Until this time she attended various group exhibitions. She opened her first personal exhibitions in 2015. Kart still gives illumination lessons while working on her art.
