Nurten Othan was born in Istanbul in 1973. She is a high school graduate. She took calligraphy lessons from Ethem Çalışkan and Mukadder Mustafa Erol. She has also taken painting and illuminatied manuscripts lessons. She is currently taking calligraphy lessons from Hüseyin Türkmen.
