Filiz Öner was born in 1986 in Çanakkale. She graduated from the Department of Geography at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in the same field. Öner began creating handmade cloth dolls in 2020, learning the craft from her mother, with whom she grew up surrounded by traditional handmade dolls. Continuing her career as a geography teacher, Öner designs culturally inspired cloth dolls that reflect Anatolian heritage through a geographical perspective. She has conducted numerous workshops, provided online lessons, and guided many learners in this traditional craft. In 2023, she showcased her work at the Çanakkale Seed Exchange Festival, where she presented her handmade cloth dolls at her own stand. Öner continues her production in her personal studio located in Kepez, Çanakkale. She is currently working on a series of culturally grounded cloth doll designs aimed at preserving and transmitting cultural heritage, and plans to exhibit these works in the near future.
