Fuat Başar was born in Erzurum in 1953. He dropped out of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine in 1980 because of his love of art. Başar started his marbling studies by corresponding with Mustafa Düzgünman in 1977, started taking khatt classes from Hamit Aytaç in the same year and received his license from Aytaç in 1980. He received three marbling licenses, one of them in Ottoman Turkish, from Mustafa Düzgünman since 1989. Başar, who participated in hundreds of personal and group exhibitions and international art organizations, introduced marbling art in various countries such as USA, Germany, Japan, Malaysia. He trained many khatt and marbling masters worldwide, carried out studies on physicochemistry of marbling, published a book and various articles on marbling. His works are in many museums around the world and in collections both at home and abroad. He signed the tughras (calligraphic signatures) of many presidents and ministers. Başar continues his works as a marbling master and khattat at his own workshop.
