Ahmet Zeki Yavaş was born in rize in 1966. He is the founding president of the Classical Turkish Arts Foundation and the chairman of the board of Istanbul Classical Arts Center. He studied naskh script with Hamit Aytaç for a period of time, thuluth and jali thuluth scripts with Khattat Osman Özçay. Yavaş participated in over five-hundred exhibitions. Some of his khatt plates are in various private collections and museums in Turkey and abroad. He wrote Tughras (a calligraphic signature) for many people. He still works as an art consultant and art coordinator at various public and private institutions. Some of the students Yavaş trained are Osman Çiçek and Muhammet Demir.
