 Hafize Özkaya was born in Istanbul in 1956. She graduated from the Arabic - Persian Philology Department of the Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters in 1979. In 1974, she began taking illumination classes from Distinguished Professor Süheyl Ünver's at Kubbealti Foundation. She also took classes from Semih İrteş, Nusret Çolpan, Prof. Nil Sarı and Mamure Öz. Özkaya, along with Arabic, also gave illumination classes. The artist, who participated in many exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, has been giving classes with Sema Mete Çevik and continuing her works at the workshop named after her in Erenköy since 1999. Banu Göbülük, Naciye Şenbaba, Şule Atasever, Ayşe Güngör, Meral Topsakal and Esra Uzun are the students trained by Özkaya.
