Esma N. Akoğlu was born in Istanbul. She studied Business Administration. Akoğlu started receiving katı’ training from Dürdane Ünver and Müjgan Başköylü at the Traditional Turkish Decorative Arts Training Center in 2004, and graduated by receiving her license in 2006 as one of the first five katı’ graduates. She received illumination training from Nilüfer Kurfeyz at the same institution between 2006-2009 and graduated. Akoğlu took part in the book titled “100 Traditional Artists of Istanbul” published by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Co. in 2013. She won an achievement award in katı’ branch in the 18th State Turkish Decorative Arts Competition organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She was a member of the jury in the Masters of the Future Competition organized in 2015. Akoğlu, who participated in various group exhibitons, has been taking khatt classes from Khattat Ayten Tiryaki since 2014, still serves as Dürdane Ünver’s assistant and participates in her project group. She continues her studies at her own workshop called Saray Art.
