Ruhsar Özer was born in Istanbul in 1949. She is a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Department of Psychology-Pedagogy. She is continuing her career as a clinical psychologist. She started her illumination studies at the Illumination and Miniature Workshop managed by Distinguished Professor Süheyl Ünver at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Medical History Department in 1972, and continued with Ünver for six years. Özer also worked with important masters like Caide Keskiner, Azade Akar and Melek Antel. She attended Gülbün Mesara and Nusret Çolpan’s miniature workshops at the National Palaces Classical Turkish Arts Center in 2005-2006, and Hikmet Baturçugil’s marbling workshops at the same center in 2006-2007. Özer published a free miniature comic strip in a children’s magazine in 1976. She held and participated in many group and personal exhibitions both at home and abroad, took part in events, projects and exhibitions organized by various universities in Turkey. Özer has master instructor certificates and awards from art festivals and symposiums organized by UNESCO in various countries such as Greece, Russia and Czech Republic. Her works have been featured in many national and international periodicals, catalogs and art portals. Özer has been among the “Masters of Istanbul” within the scope of Istanbul Capital of Culture Project. She is also one of the artists registered at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Özer still gives illumination and miniature classes at Yildiz Technical University and trains new students.
