Fırat was born in 1976 in Istanbul. He began studying at Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory Instrument Construction Department in 1996 and graduated in 2001 as the second highest ranking student of his year. He opened his own workshop in 2008, where he constructs and repairs tanbur, oud and guitar, and at the same time he continues his intense researches on instrument construction.
