Genal was born in Istanbul in 1950. In 1972, she graduated from the Ministry of National Education Primary School Teachers’ Highschool, and started to work as a primary school teacher in Çankırı. She completed Anadolu University Associate Degree program in 1988. In 1994, she received a certificate of appreciation from Bostancı Primary School, where she was working, due to her “record grade point average being above 90 for the last 6 years”, and a certificate of achievement in 1998 for her success in the quiz show organized by the Ministry of National Education. In 2001, she started working at Batı Koleji, and was awarded a certificate of achievement in 2001-2002. During this period, Genal participated in seminars on motivation, communication, effective education and educational strategies for special children and received a certificate. She quit teaching in 2007 and joined ISMEK’s wood painting and patchwork courses in 2008. In the same year, she opened a patchwork exhibition at the Halis Kurtça Cultural Center. She has also contributed to the patchwork artworks of the artist Ahmet Güneştekin, who has produced important artworks and opened exhibitions in Europe and America. Genal continues her patchwork training and production professionally since 2008.
