Fatma Çiçek Derman was born in Ankara in 1945. She is a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Department of Art History. Derman worked as the Faculty Dean at Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty, and as the Founding President of the Traditional Turkish Arts Department and Illumination-Miniature Art Major until 2012. She is still the Faculty Dean of Haliç University Fine Arts Faculty. She learnt the art of illumination from Prof. Süheyl Ünver, Musin Demironat and Rikkat Kunt; and received her license from Rikkat Kunt in 1982. Derman, who was an honorary teacher at Kubbealtı Workshop between 1976-2000, has a published book with İnci A. Birol, named “Patterns in Turkish Decorative Arts”, a book with Prof. Uğur Derman, named “Hilya of Kadi-ul Asker Mustafa İzzet Efendi” and a book published in 2013 named “Madam Teacher Rikkat Kunt. She won the Great Award of Culture and Art from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2012.
