Nimet Kalkanlı was born in 1950. She started her training at Istanbul University Süheyl Ünver Workshop in 2004. Kalkanlı attended the illumination, miniature and katı’ courses Gülbün Mesera gave. She mainly focused on the art of thin paper carving, and participated in many exhibitions. Kalkanlı participated in the “Traditional Turkish Book Arts – The Masters of Today” project organized within the scope of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. She received Artist Certificate in 2010 and Artist Presentation Card in katı’ branch in 2014 from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Kalkanlı was a member of the jury for two years in the Masters of the Future Competitions organized by the Association of Traditional Arts. Her works are in various institutions and private collections such as the Presidential Art Collection, Ege University Paper and Book Arts Museum and Sakıp Sabancı Mardin City Museum. She continues her artistic studies with Gülbün Mesara at A. Süheyl Ünver Art Workshop.
