Hüseyin Hüsnü Türkmen was born in Trabzon in 1970. He got into Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department in 1991, and graduated in 1998 with his thesis about “Life and Works of Khattat Mahmut Celaleddin”. He studied ruq’ah with Mahmut Öncü. Türkmen gained signing authority after studying ruq’ah, diwani, jali diwani and ta’liq scripts with Dr. Ali Alparslan for six years. He took thuluth and modern khatt classes from Asst. Prof. Hüseyin Gündüz, tile classes from Prof. Kerim Silivrili and Prof. Sitare Turan Bakır, and also took paper restoration classes from Saadet Gazi for two years. He studied thuluth-naskh with Fuat Başar in 2000-2005 and received his license, he also took naskh classes from Mehmet Özçay between 2004-2009. Türkmen studied thuluth with Osman Özçay between 2007-2009. He participated in many exhibitions both at home and abroad, and won prizes in various competitions. Türkmen still takes jali ta’liq classes from Khattat Savaş Çevik. Some of the students he trained are Fatma Yazıcı and Kenan Ercan.
