Hüsrev Subaşı was born in Tokat in 1953. He is a graduate of Maramara University Theology Faculty and Istanbul University Faculty of Letter. He was appointed as an assistant at Marmara University Theology Faculty, and completed his doctorate in 1984. Subaşı received Assistant Professor title in 1990, and Professor title in 1997. He received thuluth and naskh training from Khattat Hâmid Aytaç. In 1987-1998, he did a research at Cairo University on the traces of Turkish khatt in Egypt.

Subaşı also did works to sustain the traditional arts and raise awareness to preserve the cultural heritage. He held many exhibitions with his wife, who is also an artist, in Cairo, Bursa, Dubai, Sharjah, Tunisia, Jeddah, Berlin and Istanbul. Subaşı wrote the scriptures of over ten mosques, most of them in Istanbul, and the most recent one of them was the Grand Station of Istanbul Cumhuriyet (means ‘Replublic’ in Turkish) Mosque. He still works as a professor at the Turkish Decorative and Khatt Arts Department at Marmara University Theology Faculty.
