Süleyman Berk was born in İnegöl/Bursa in 1964. He graduated from Marmara University Theology Department in 1988. Berk worked as a District Mufti, and as an assistant between 1994-2000 at the Directorate of Religious Affairs. He has been giving khatt classes at İSMEK since 2002, and is also the group leader. Berk began working as a training counsellor at Zeytinburnu Municipality Culture and Art Center in June 2009. He started studying thuluth-naskh with Khattat Yusuf Ergün (Erzincânî) in 1979; studied ruq’ah with Khattat Prof. Muhittin Serin; and took letter correction (tashîh-i huruf) classes from the Imam of Bâyezid Mosque, İsmail Biçer between 1983-1988. Berk completed his thesis titled “Jali Thuluth and Tughra Aesthetics of Khattat Mustafa Râkım” in 1999 with Prof. Muhittin Serin as his advisor.
