Hatice Aksu was born in Istanbul in 1965. She is a graduate of Fatih Girls’ High School. She attended the illumination classes at Kubbealtı Academy Art Foundation between 1980-1983. Aksu, who received illumination classes from Çiçek Derman and İnci Ayan Birol, attended the illumination courses at IU. Cerrahpaşa Süheyl Ünver Workshop between 1983-1986. She studied with Cahide Keskiner, Melek Antel, Mamure Öz, Birsen Gökçe and Semih İrteş at Topkapı Palace Turkish Decorative Arts Courses in 1984. Aksu worked on the art of bookbinding with Dündar Tahsin Aykutalp at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) Illumination Art Major, form where she graduated in 1990, and with İslam Seçen at the Art Minor. She completed her graduate studies in 1992 with Kerim Silivrili as her advisor; and her doctorate in 1998 with Selçuk Mülayim as her advisor with her thesis titled “The Origins of Rumi Motif” at MSFAU Department of Archeology and Art History. Aksu, who opened the art courses at İSMEK, currently gives classes at her own workshop.
