Ahmet Sacit Açıkgözoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1969. He graduated from Marmara University (MU) Faculty of Theology in 1993 and completed MU Institute of Social Sciences, History of Turkish-Islamic Arts Graduate Program in 1995. Açıkgözoğlu completed his doctorate in 2002 at MU Institute of Turkic Studies Turkish Art Program with his thesis study titled “Front Areas of Mihrabs in Ottoman Mosques” with Prof. Selçuk Mülayim as his advisor. He was appointed as a lecturer at Sakarya University Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department in 2003. In 2009, he started working at MU Faculty of Science-Literature Department of Art History. Açıkgözoğlu continued his khatt studies with Khattat Hüseyin Kutlu between 1995 – 2005, also did studies with Prof. Ali Alparslan and Asst. Prof. Ali Rıza Özcan. He received his license from his marbling teacher Sadreddin Özçimi in 2005. Açıkgözoğlu did studies on book arts, inscriptions and Ottoman architecture and gave classes in these fields. He participated in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad, held personal “Classical Turkish Marbling” exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Pristina, Sarajevo and Budapest. Açıkgözoğlu has been working at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Arts Department since 2014.
