Hüseyin Gündüz was born in Kayseri in 1961. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1984 and started working as a research assistant at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Fine Arts Faculty Traditional Turkish Arts Khatt Department in 1985. Gündüz completed his graduate studies with his thesis study themed “Comparison of Sheikh Hamdullah School and Karahisari School” in 1988, and his proficiency in art (doctorate) with his thesis study themed “Elements of Aesthetics of Khatt Art” in 1994. He started working as the head of the Khatt Art Major at the same department in 1996. Gündüz took naskh, thuluth, ta’liq classes from Hamid Aytaç and Kemal Batanay between 1976-1982. He carried out studies with Emin Barın on the intricacies of khatt art, script analysis, kufic, diwani scripts and script restoration. Gündüz, who studied khatt also with Ali Alparslan, made tughras for local and foreign politicians and famous people. He restored the manuscripts in some private collections.
