Mehtap Cömert was born in Edirne in 1952. She graduated from State Applied Fine Arts Vocational School Decorative Painting Department in 1977. Cömert founded the Wall Decoration Department of Trakya University Vocational School in 1985. She presented her proficiency in art thesis at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1987, and took classes from Kerim Silivri. She retired from Trakya University Education Faculty Fine Arts Department in 2005, and continues her edirnekâri studies at her workshop. Hatice Yılmaz is a student Cömert trained.
